Normal People Fan? Trinity Spots in the Series!

The series Normal People based on Sally Rooney’s novel, which premiered in April 2020 and has taken the world by storm! Sally Rooney released the book Normal People in 2018, the book proved popular and has now become a 12-part series. Sally Rooney herself attended Trinity College, and the college plays a big part in the series, featuring as a wonderful backdrop. You may wonder, which is better, the series or the book? When it comes to Normal People, the general consensus seems to be that If you’re a fan of the series, you should also read the book, and vice versa. We know at Trinity Book club that books manage to bring stories and characters to life and explore complex dynamics in their own unique way. There is also something special about seeing a favourite book become a series or film!

The Normal People tv series has brought the wonderful characters of Marianne and Connell to a whole new audience. The show features many beautiful settings including the scenic countryside of Sligo, the streets of Dublin City Centre and Marianne’s exquisite Italian farmhouse. More importantly, let’s not forget the fabulous scenes set in Trinity College itself.

So, Normal People fans, where should you visit to reminisce and see the filming locations once spotted in Normal People? Many locations on campus feature in the series.

Firstly, stop by the Robert Emmet Theatre, located in the Arts building. This is the lecture hall where Marianne and Connell can be seen taking classes.

Next stop is the Berkeley Library. Soak in the Trinity library atmosphere and even make a start on one of those essays that have started piling up! Connell is seen studying here in episode 11, and he even gets a job here during his time in college.

Hopefully it’s a sunny day, your next port of call is the Pavillion bar, with its fabulous setting overlooking the Cricket Pitches. Sit on the front steps, grab yourself a drink and relax! This was the spot where Connell and Marianne reunite unexpectedly at Trinity.

If you have more time to explore, you can leave the grounds of Trinity and go a little further afield in Dublin to explore more sights! Stop by the beautiful Georgian house where Marianne lives during her time at Trinity. Finish off your day at the Blackbird pub in Rathmines. Blackbird pub is a combination of quirky, cosy and unique pub. This pub is seen in the scene where Marianne and Connell spend time with their new college friends.
